Evita's Ricky Martin Will Switch to Seven Performances a Week This Fall

Ricky Martin will begin playing Che for seven performances each week in the current revival of Evita on September 3. Martin will play performances Tuesday through Saturday, with understudies Max von Essen and Daniel Torres alternating the role of Che on Monday evenings. Evita continues to play Broadway’s Marquis Theatre. The schedule change is part of a slight restructuring of Martin's appearance agreement with producers and will not change his overall number of performances during his run with the production. 

Evita charts the rise and fall of Eva Peron, the one-time charismatic and glamorous young First Lady of Argentina, and includes songs such as “Buenos Aires,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” In addition to Martin, the current Broadway production stars Elena Roger as Eva Peron and Tony winner Michael Cerveris as Juan Peron.

Von Essen has been seen on Broadway in Les Miserables, Dance of the Vampires and Jesus Christ Superstar. His other stage credits include Death Takes a Holiday, Jerry Springer: The Opera, Finian’s Rainbow, The Fantasticks, Mame and The Baker’s Wife. Torres’ stage credits include The Woman in White, Altar Boyz, A Christmas Carol, Wicked and The Pirate Queen.
